editorial overview

In their prime the Zulu’s conquered every tribe close to them and even defeated elements of the British Army. The efficiency of the Roman Legions is legendary. The Spartans were rarely defeated in battle. What do these societies have in common? Each had warrior mentalities—and they trained and drilled until their battle skills were perfected.
In modern times, firearms have replaced the gladius and assagai, but one thing which has remained constant is the need for training. Plain luck notwithstanding, he who is the most skilled with his weapon will prevail. However, firearms are a small part of the overall picture, as good tactics are also desperately needed to survive.
This issue features six articles directly geared towards training. From the new Aerial Gunnery class at Thunder Ranch, to an explosive entry class at TEES, we’ve got it covered in this issue. Want a little fun to go along with your training? The S.W.A.T. Magazine World Championship 3-Gun Tactical Match is to the modern practical shooter what the Olympics were to a Spartan warrior—and you’ll read about it here first!
Our regular columns also give the reader food for thought with such topics as: Carjacking, Don’t Be a Victim; Fighting is a Thinking Man’s Game, The Mission of the Convertible Shotgun and much, much more.
